Our ELS Language Center in Seattle, Washington is located in the Capital Hill district of the city. With a backdrop of majestic Mt. Rainier, the Cascade, Olympic Mountains, and the downtown district, Seattle enjoys the enviable reputation as one of America's "most livable" cities. By taking the Prep Program, you will practice integrated reading and listening skills, improve writing and speaking, as well as learn test-taking strategies.

American Explorer

The American Explorer Program consists of 12 levels of instruction from Beginning to Masters proficiency, with four weeks of instruction per level.

English for Executives

The English for Executives Program is designed for junior and mid-level professionals who want to combine general English practice along with career-specific communication training. The English for Executives Program consists of three 50-minutes interactive group lessons and three personalized, 50-minute one-to-one lessons each day in ELS group classes. The course length may be two or four weeks, beginning on any of the 26 year-round Intensive English Program start dates.

Super Intensive Plus

Cost Per Session: $5,125.00

For maximum results in just one week’s time, the Super Intensive Plus Program is the best choice for a busy executive. This highly rigorous course consists of 70 lessons, 50 minutes each, of combined in-class instruction and out-of-class cultural activities, generally taught from Monday through Sunday. Super Intensive Plus is ideal in preparation for an important business presentation or meeting in the United States. Due to the intensity of this program, intermediate English proficiency is highly recommended. ELS will provide assistance with accommodation arrangements.

Super Intensive English (30 lessons)

Cost Per Session: $7,050.00

The ELS Super Intensive English Program is the fastest way to improve English proficiency. This course combines highly concentrated, one-to-one instruction and a curriculum targeted specially to the participant’s needs. Courses are individually designed based upon level of English ability, desired language use and outcomes, and length of time available for study. This program can begin on any Monday and may last for one week to four weeks or more. The Super Intensive Program consists of either 20, 30 or 45 private, 50-minute lessons each week, taught on a Monday to Friday schedule. ELS will provide assistance with accommodation arrangements.

Through regularly organized activities you can practice English both in and out of the classroom with native guest speakers or American students discussing various topics.

Volunteerism Experience
ELS Language Centers offers a unique opportunity for full-time students who wish to participate in volunteer experiences at public and private, national and local organizations that provide services to adults, youth, children, elderly, handicapped and needy, or services protecting and improving the environment. Students who complete this experience will receive a certificate, which recognizes their participation.

Off-Campus Student Residence

Two students share a room in a 2-bedroom (4 person) apartment-style residence with a shared bathroom (1 bathroom/per 4 people). Each apartment has a furnished kitchen, desk, chairs, and living room with TV. Apartments include 4 beds (2 in each room) and closets. Linens are also included. Students clean their own rooms and apartment during their stay.

Homestay

All ELS Centers offer homestay accommodations with an English-speaking host family. ELS host families are carefully screened to ensure they provide a pleasant and safe “home away from home” for our students. Living with a host family can help you learn English faster while experiencing American customs and culture firsthand. Students often develop very close relationships with their hosts — friendships that can last a lifetime. Students have their own room and are responsible for their personal transportation.

Center Staff

Tamarra Jeu-Koenigs
Ms. Jeu-Koenigs has been with ELS for over 5 years. In her time as Center Director, Tamarra has transformed ELS/Seattle into one of the premiere English learning centers in the northwest. Her ability to inspire students, commitment to academic integrity, and breadth of knowledge in academic advising has made Tamarra a force in international education. Ms. Jeu-Koenigs is an active member of NAFSA and is the former Region I Treasurer and Development Chair. Prior to her arrival at Seattle, Ms. Jeu-Koenigs was an Associate Director for a private high scholl in the greater Puget Sound area.

Jean Sauvion
Jean has been a great addition to ELS/Seattle as our Academic Director. With two post baccalaureates in English as a Second Language, Jean has been able to share her many teaching techniques to those she supervises. Best known as the seminar queen, Ms. Sauvion works hard to have her instructors teach to EVERY student. Jean’s students would probably describe her as diplomatic, patient and caring. Her knowledge of the ELS curriculum and adherence to academic integrity is truly second to none.

Lisa Smoker
Lisa has joined the ELS /Seattle team as the Assistant Center Director. She comes from a strong background in International Education ranging from Student Insurance to Student Advising. As a former NAFSA Chair and Education Abroad Representative, Lisa’s passion for international education is evident. Ms. Smoker has a strong sense of compassion for students, integrity and a breadth of knowledge in international relations. She has also been a former international student advisor for Edmonds Community College and a recruiter for CAPA Study Abroad.

Angelica
Angelica has been a true asset as the ELS/Seattle registrar. She showed up on the doorstep of ELS/Seattle and has not missed a beat since! As a previous administrative assistant for the Storybook Center, she is very familiar working with parents and representatives when dealing with grades and tuition. Her financial savvy, ability to deal with complex situations and tactful nature has made Angelica a very effective in her position as registrar.

Jason Chadick
John came to ELS in 2008 as our International Student Advisor. Jason’s youthful exuberance, energy and enthusiasm are the greatest assets he brings to Seattle. As a former student services coordinator for the Northwest Indian college, he is all too familiar with counseling issues and academic advising. Through the use of personal attention and quiet assertiveness, Jason has been able to win over even the most difficult students. Truly, ELS/Seattle has become a better center by adding Mr. Chadick to our team.

Travis West
Travis is a jack of all trades. Travis works as an Assistant ISA. Administratively, Mr. West is in charge of helping to facilitate student activities and field general student questions. In the short time he has been at ELS, Travis he made a name for himself by creating new and innovative opportunities for all of our students. He has been a wonderful addition to ELS by infusing his eagerness, passion and gusto into all that he does.
