Center Information
Our ELS Language Center in DeLand, Florida is located on the beautiful and historic 60-hectare campus of Stetson University, Florida's oldest private university. DeLand is a typical American small town, situated in east central Florida and just 56 kilometers from Orlando. DeLand was selected by Southern Living magazine as its favorite small town in the Southeast. Disney World®, Universal Studios®, EPCOT Center® and Animal Kingdom®, Kennedy Space Center, and Daytona Beach, the "World's Most Famous Beach", are all less than an hour away.

Music, Voice or Dance Lessons
We can arrange for students to take musical instrument, voice or dance lessons with faculty or qualified students.
Access to Campus Facilities/Services
ELS students may use many of the facilities at our host college/university for free (or low cost) during their studies. Available facilities may vary, but usually include a fitness center, swimming pool, campus library, tennis court, and more.
College Class Visits and Auditing (FT)
ELS Fast Track students (in key levels) can visit one or more college classes, depending on professor approval.

Center Staff
Marybeth Ferland
Center Director of ELS Language Centers DeLand. She has a B.A. degree in Art and French, Masters and Education Specialist degrees in Curriculum and Instruction, and additional post graduate studies in Language, Literacy, and Culture. Her interests include anything in the arts. Originally from Boston, Marybeth loves the charm of the city of DeLand and the friendliness of its people- reasons why she has lived there for more than 30 years with her husband and 3 sons. She has also lived in Germany, France, and the Netherlands.
Rita Bostwick
Rita, is the current Academic Director of ELS Language Centers, but has held previous titles as registrar and instructor at ELS DeLand. Her international experience includes living in Poland, teaching the English language to students there, as well as serving as translator. Additionally, Rita worked for many years as a teacher and administrator in a private elementary school in Pennsylvania, the state in which she was born. She enjoys very much working with international students and watching them develop their English language skills.
James Marindino
International student advisor and instructor at ELS Language Centers Deland is a Stetson University graduate with a B.A. degree in Spanish, but also is bilingual in Italian and English. Originally from New Jersey, Jim has lived in Florida for more than 20 years. His interests include Italian cooking, given his years of experience as a chef in a local restaurant where he also honed his excellent customer service skills. Jim leads our weekly evening activities, and especially loves arranging volley ball, soccer, or other activities between ELS and Stetson University students.
Alla Dubinina
Alla, is the registrar at ELS DeLand and originally from Krasnodar, Russia where she worked for years in office management. Alla’s interests include second language learning, as well as learning about the similarities and differences between cultures - reasons why she very much enjoys working with international students at ELS Language Centers DeLand.
