USA Student Visa Issuance Delays and SEVIS Outages Impact Student Travel – Plan Ahead!

We have important information regarding visa issuance and SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) outages that are causing delays in the student visa process. The problem is not specific to any particular country or visa type.

Please apply as early as possible and plan ahead when submitting your ELS and university applications to account for the delays resulting from these outages.

Visa Issuance Delays

The United States Bureau of Consular Affairs is currently experiencing technical problems with its visa system, resulting in delays in printing visas and impacting visa interviews. If you submitted your online visa application (Form DS-160) on or after June 9, 2015, you may need to reschedule your visa interview.  Please visit the website of your nearest
U.S. Embassy or Consulate for more information and visit the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Consular Affairs page for more information on the technical problems.

Planned SEVIS Outage

SEVIS is being updated this June, and as a result, SEVIS will be unavailable from 8 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EDT) on Friday, June 26, 2015, through 8 p.m. EDT on Sunday, June 28, 2015.  Unfortunately, that weekend is the ELS arrival weekend for students whose studies begin June 29, 2015 (Session 7A).

Because of this outage, all incoming students should carry their I-20s with them upon entry, along with their acceptance letter to ELS, in order to minimize any delays and other problems that may arise during the entry process.

More information on the SEVIS outage, including impact on other services such as I-901 SEVIS Fee Payments, may be found on the
Study in the States web page.
